Guest Speaker from “Walk for Water”
-Was not yet present at the meeting at the time, but arrived later. In the meantime, Kenzie introduced the walk this upcoming Sunday, October 4, which will be raising awareness for the water shortage occurring in San Diego. It begins at 8am at DeAnza Cove in Mission Bay, and present will be a reggae band and beer garden.
-Guest Speaker arrived: The Walk for Water event taking place on November 14 is to raise funds for a water purifier for a school in Uganda, because the water is constantly contaminated there. As a result people get ill, and dehydrated, and as a result drink more water from the original source, and thus a vicious cycle occurs. There is a liaison with David Roberts from Rotary.
-T-Shirts will be $15 and are optional. $5 goes to cost of production for T-shirts and remaining $10 will be donated. However it is free to walk, and sponsorship forms are optional. Visit waterwalk.org for more information.
Peace Corps Guest Speaker
-October 12
-Will discuss his experiences in Panama (his assignment), as well as recruitment info
Ice Breaker
-Kenzie led the Ice breaker to introduce all the members to each other, and have fun doing so. The members present gathered in a circle and played for about 20 minutes.
Country Info (Topic for meeting)
-Members who had prepared for the meeting by gathering research and current events about the country of their choice, shared, and joined in discussion. Countries discussed included Uganda, Singapore, Australia, Honduras, Brazil, and Iran.
-Next meeting, bring in a position paper about the country researched from that country’s point of view of the top two issues. It should be about a paragraph long- background info, and how country would react. Use cia.gov as a source, and go to nmun.org to see examples of how to write a position paper.
